Civil engineering and mountain road building masterpieces were commonplace in the Southern Aps on Highway 73 from the West Coast to Arthurs Pass.

Driving out of Arthurs Pass and heading back to the Canterbury plain is bound to stimulate the amateur geologist in anyone.

A domestic deer herd in the rain on our first day driving South out of Christchurch. We saw more deer than cattle on pasture during our trip.

Keith and I spent just a few hours touring Christchurch sites. Keith enjoys a coffee on Cathedral Square while I take tourist snapshots.

We walked through Christchurch's beautiful Botanic Garden as the Sun was sinking towards the horizon on an August Winter day. This poster reminded us that good timing is everything.

Fox Glacier: We came, we saw. The trip up through a ice-scored valley was more interesting than the glacier edge itself.

We spent our full second day in New Zealand driving to and from Milford Sound and taking a tour boat ride. The gods of weather smiled upon us.

Driving from Christchurch to Queenstown on our first full day showed us a lot of rain and snow and lovely Winter landscapes.

As we pulled into the Queenstown area, the clouds parted and the Sun and rain soaked sky blessed us with this spectacular rainbow.

The edge of the airport was as close as we wanted to get to Queenstown. As we headed South on Highway 6, the Remarkables broke through clouds in good lighting.

Although a product of Australia, we didn't discover Bundaberg Ginger Beer until we were half way through our New Zealand trip. One sip of Bundaberg, and all American ginger ales and ginger beers now seem like frivolous and pathetically weak flavored sugar water.
