Comparison of 2 EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II Samples
When corner sharpness of version II of the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L in my initial tests gave slightly lower corner fine line resolution than the first version of the lens, there was concern that I may have tested a bad sample of the version II lens. A fredmiranda.com forum member sent me a copy of their version II lens to test. Sample 1 is the lens I own and tested in the review. Sample 2 is the lens that was loaned to me to test.
Lens sample | Date code | Manufacture date | Serial # |
Sample 1 | UW0603 | June, 2008 | 1184023 |
Sample 2 | UW0603 | June, 2008 | 1146842 |
Line Resolution at 16mm and 20mm settings
Performance of the two samples of the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II is comparable. There is no data to support a conclusion that Sample 1 used in the tests is defective or dysfunctional.
